Phần 6 trong series
Học từ vựng TOEIC qua Story
6/6

Chapter 6 — Making Halston Want It

Diane passed the baton to Daniel Cho the very next morning. The void clause in the Brightway contract had made it plain: if Aria did not sell, everything would vanish into thin air. “Your job,” she said, “is to turn a good product into one that all of Halston has to have.”

Daniel did not need to be told twice. He gathered the whole department and spread out the plan for the largest marketing campaign in Aster’s history. The core idea was to build the Aria brand into a name that meant “the home that thinks”; from there, a wave of advertisements on every front would promote the product.

“But promote it to whom, exactly?” asked Rosie Park, the assistant who always kept a compact of blush within reach. The seemingly naive question hit the mark. Daniel pointed at the screen: the target market was Halston’s urban middle class — young, tech-loving consumers willing to pay for comfort. To understand them, the team had run a survey with a detailed questionnaire; the feedback that came back was very positive, along with a few testimonials from the trial group. Daniel had even persuaded a well-known Halston tech personality to endorse the brand.

Rosie — with a sharp eye for design hidden behind that blush — was the one who noticed the old visual identity looked “flat and cheap.” She proposed colors, fonts, and a layout that made Aria “look more expensive than its price.” Daniel nodded: image, too, is part of a brand.

Then he turned to the thorniest part: the competition. Neura was the biggest competitor, with far deeper pockets. To win, Aria had to be truly competitive on both price and features. Daniel settled on a bold move: use the Brightway deal to offer an exclusive launch promotion — available only in Halston, at least for the first year.

For sales, Daniel laid out an entire machine. To boost sales and avoid the decline that trips up so many new products, he presented an ambitious sales forecast, set a clear quota for the sales team, distributed through Brightway’s retail outlets, handed out vouchers to early buyers, built a loyalty program to keep customers coming back, and above all, bet on the power of word of mouth. He believed that if the product was good enough, customers themselves would create demand for one another.

At the end, Daniel did something that made the whole room hold its breath: he committed to a sales figure for the launch quarter — so high that Diane raised an eyebrow. “I’m staking my reputation on it,” he said.

End of Chapter 6.
